What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to the site owners.

How we use cookies

SimmaSend uses a small number of cookies, all of which are essential to the functioning of the service. We do not use any analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

The cookies we set

Teacher identity cookie

When a teacher uses SimmaSend for the first time, they enter their name and subject. This information is stored in an HTTP-only browser cookie with a 365-day expiry. This cookie allows the system to recognise the teacher on return visits so they do not need to re-enter their details each time. The cookie contains a unique token that links to the teacher's record in our database. It does not contain the teacher's name or any personal information directly.

Admin session cookie

When a school administrator signs in via a magic link, a session cookie is set to keep them signed in. This cookie expires after 24 hours, at which point the administrator will need to sign in again via a new magic link. This cookie is essential for accessing the admin dashboard.

Supabase authentication cookies

Supabase (our database provider) sets cookies to manage authentication sessions. These are strictly necessary for the service to function.

Third-party cookies

SimmaSend does not use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics or advertising cookies. We do not track your browsing behaviour across other websites.

Disabling cookies

You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, but this will prevent SimmaSend from functioning correctly. In particular, teachers will need to re-enter their name and subject on every visit, and administrators will not be able to stay signed in.
